As many of you know, I have a serious addiction to Dark Chocolate and now the research and evidence is backing up what I must have known all along for years. Dark Chocolate is an excellent anti-oxidant and helps prevent heart attack and stroke. The good news is that is tastes great too!
The other night I was at some friends’ house, where they brought out a bottle of port to have after dessert. I immediately asked whether they had some dark chocolate, as that was what my Belgian friends recommended as the best thing to pair with port. Seriously, I think that the Belgians pair everything with Dark Chocolate, from Kale to Canteloupe, everything must have a chocolate buddy to liven up the flavors.
As it turns out, Dark Chocolate’s intense flavor comes from what are aptly known as flavonoids. These dark pigmented nutrients are found in wine, chocolate, acai berries, tomatoes and many other foods. I was getting a double dose of anti-oxidants from the port and the chocolate.
Don’t feel guilty about eating chocolate, it’s good for you.
